Built in 1883 as a school for the newly formed San Miguel County School District, the annex behind Town Hall served as the firehouse for over 60 years. In 1986, a new station was built next door. Remodeled in 1998, the new station houses Engine 1, a pumper truck that holds 600 gal of water with a 1250 gal/min pump; Rescue 1, which carries extrication tools, hazmat gear and air cascade to refill personal air bottles; Truck 1, with a 95 foot aerial platform (bucket), a 300 gal tank and a 1500 gal/min pump; two ALS equipped Ambulances, 1 and 4, and an ALS equipped paramedic Quick Response Vehicle.
